Cory Seznec and Amadou Diagne are touring with Highlights as the music duo Touki, in early November. We’re delighted they will also join Participate to bring three fantastic Music workshops to schools in Penrith, as part of their tour. Touki will give two workshops at North Lakes School for all of the Year 6 children and then visit Ullswater Community College in the afternoon.
Touki (“journey” in the Wolof language) is a tour de force in multi-instrumental musical exultation, during which the musicians joyously switch between kora (West African harp), banjos, guitars, percussion and other instruments, deploying powerful beats, driving grooves, and silky voices that leap from East to West Africa and across to America. The influences are many, and rather than remaining in any one tradition, the Touki – the musical voyage itself – is the destination.
