We’re delighted to be joined again by author Dr Yvonne Battle- Felton in early November, for a whole day of Creative Writing workshops, in Ashington Northumberland.
Yvonne will be visiting Ashington Academy and then Central Primary School, working with their large Year 4 cohort across two sessions. Yvonne joins us as part of our Rural Young Creatives project, funded by the Community Foundation for Tyne and Wear, for developing workshops in Northumberland.
Yvonne is the Academic Director for Creative Writing at Cambridge University’s Institute of Continuing Education and a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University. She is interested in the power of stories to build community, public engagement, and creating opportunities for students and communities. Her children’s short story So Your Mom is a Superhero, was commended for the Faber Andlyn BAME (FAB) Prize in 2017 and she is co-author of Ladybird’s audio book ‘Ladybird Tales of Crowns and Thrones’ read by Cathy Tyson.
Yvonne is also co-director of North West Literary Arts, an arts organization that aims to create opportunities and platforms for diverse writers and audiences. They develop Stories at the Storey and North West Literary Salon. She also writes Creative Nonfiction, Children’s Nonfiction, and short stories.
