Young Promoter Review – An Attempt to Lose Time

This season we have a student from Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale volunteering with us, to gain Young Promoter experience towards her Gold Arts Award. You can read Olivia’s second live show review, for An Attempt to Lose Time below, which she saw at Arnside Educational Institute, Cumbria.

We’d like to say a big thanks to our Promoters Kathryn, Debbie and Matthew at Orton, Arnside and Casterton who have very generously supported this season’s Young Promoter, Olivia, from Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale. With their help at venues, Olivia has been able to help back stage, meet artists/companies and find out about the work involved in running and coordinating events.

An Attempt to Lose Time was an adventure with Miranda Prag through COVID, canals and thought-provoking questions. It was a semi-autobiographical show about Miranda and the journey she took whilst trying to take a break from the rush of city life alongside leaping back and forth throughout time to different important evolutionary events such as trains, dinosaurs, and even the creation of the universe. It was an exquisite collection of random thoughts woven together through storytelling and the threads of time. She used props and staging to gradually transform her original set into a more developed structure, parallel to the deep topics she discussed. Overall, I really enjoyed the performance, and it was a very original idea presented in a skillful manner.
