Sound Roots presents…
Sound Roots bring a triple bill of wonderful musicians to Highlights this Autumn, as part of their Artist Mentoring Pathway: Ceitidh Mac blends cello, electronics and striking vocals; Glasgow duo Eleanor Dunsdon & Gregor Black fuse harp, percussion and genre-bending influences; Something Sleeps deliver boldly reimagined harmony-rich songs rooted in tradition.
With a progressive twist to her music, Ceitidh Mac is tipped by Jude Rogers as a ‘Fascinating new Welsh-born, Tyneside-dwelling singer-songwriter and cellist, with an unusual, stunning voice.’
London based dream-folk band Something Sleeps features songwriters Fiona Fey and Rey Yusuf, known for their vocal harmonies and emotionally provocative lyrics. Intricately flowing songs in layers of vocal harmony wind their way through soulful string arrangements by Monica Viñoly (Violin) and Josh Considine (Cello).
Eleanor Dunsdon & Gregor Black are a multi-award-winning Glasgow-based harp and percussion duo blending traditional music with jazz, folk, classical, and electronic influences. Taking inspiration from the vibrant Scottish folk-jazz scene, they aim to create a sound that explores the boundaries of traditional music using story-telling, themes of nature and the Irish language.
This is the second exciting collaboration between Highlights and Sound Roots, an organisation which supports UK artists to build music careers in folk and beyond. With nine musicians appearing in just one evening, this is a performance not to be missed!
