Eden Rivers Trust Volunteer Day

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment and our local community, the Highlights team spent a rewarding afternoon volunteering at the Eden Rivers Trust (ERT) tree nursery in March. This marked our fourth visit to the nursery over the past two years and true to form, the sunshine made an appearance once again! We’re proud to support the brilliant work ERT does and love rolling up our sleeves to help whenever we can.

This time around, the afternoon was packed with hands‑on tasks that kept everyone busy from making fence posts, chopping willow trees and weaving the freshly cut willow into a brand‑new fence.

Joel, Dawn and trustee Mary got stuck into cutting the fence posts to size, measuring carefully and making sure each one was ready for installation. Meanwhile, Kate and Jo took on the satisfying work of chopping the willow, creating long, flexible branches that would later be woven into the fence.

Volunteering at the tree nursery is something we look forward to every time it comes around. It’s a chance to step away from our desks, get our hands muddy, learn more about the natural world and play a small part in protecting and enhancing our local environment. The work ERT carries out is incredibly important, and we’re proud to support it in a practical, hands‑on way.

We’re already looking forward to the next visit and we promise Volunteer Leader Jenni and the brilliant ERT team that we’ll do our very best to bring the sunshine along with us again!
