Artform: Lighting Design for Theatre
Yanni is a Manchester-based director and theatre-maker who specialises in new writing with a focus on exploring the fluid concepts of time, identity, and memory. Hailing from Hong Kong, she strives to create work surrounding East Asian communities and to champion other underrepresented narratives in a positive light.
A drama graduate from the University of Manchester, she previously was the Jerwood Trainee Assistant Director for Untitled F**k M*ss S**gon Play and is also involved in New Earth’s Theatre Makers Academy Plus (2023).
Yanni’s Lighting Design workshops include: Introduction to the basics of Lighting Design – how can light be used to amplify, enhance, or build worlds within theatre? What effects do different lighting states curate? Working with colour palettes and practical skills, the workshop aims to be an insight into how lighting design is an exciting avenue of theatre-making.
Technical note – If possible, having access to a lighting board, several flashlights (number depending on the number of students), and some building blocks would be very helpful for the practical element of the workshop.
