Artform: Theatre, Writing

Hannah Sowerby is a Cumbrian playwright, performer and facilitator. She has been writing plays for over twelve years and holds a first-class degree in ‘Drama and Scriptwriting’ from Northumbria University.
Hannah offers two workshops, one suitable for high school students and one for primary school students.
The workshop suitable for high schools centres on writing a one person show for yourself based on Hannah’s experience of writing and performing her Arts Council funded play ‘10 Things to do in a Small Cumbrian Town’ at Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle. The idea of this is to build confidence, encourage students to tell their stories, show them different ways of generating material and give them the tools and inspiration to start writing a one-person show of their own. This is a helpful tool for students who want to go into the world of theatre as a writer and actor.
The workshop suitable for primary schools is a taster drama session that gives pupils an introduction to physical theatre and improvisation. The idea of this is to get the pupils working together, building their confidence and getting to express their creativity in a way that’s fun and helps to improve social skills.
