On Sycamore Gap: Words and music of loss, hope and renewal
On Sycamore Gap
Words and music of loss, hope and renewal
Join poet Kate Fox and musicians Staithe (Bridie Jackson and Nick Pierce) in a performance of music and poetry, based on Kate’s most recent publication of the same name. Inspired by the shocking act of vandalism in 2023 that resulted in the felling of the world-famous tree that stood in a gap on Hadrian’s Wall, the poetry book was published on 26 September on the eve of the first anniversary of this criminal act. Kate’s collection of beautifully crafted verse, supported by the haunting and intimate music of Staithe, echoes in the empty space we now encounter and helps to fill the void with hope.
"... a fantastic evening. The blend of music and poetry was enthralling. I felt all the emotions, reliving the "news" and reflecting through the journey with the performers. It was beautiful. I would wholeheartedly recommend this show to everyone. It is a really valuable piece of work that commemorates an event that had an impact, not just locally, but also nationally and internationally, and touched many people who had a relationship with the tree, through nature, history, movies, family and community. It's message of hope is universal."
"...this navigation of the 'Sycamore Gap' story brings a bond for all through its delightful journey of sadness, understanding, optimism, insight, and humour. Add the beauty of voice and the gentle poignant instrumental overlay and we have an exceptional collision of words and music inextricably entwined - Totally unmissable”
