Royal Northern Sinfonia call The Glasshouse home, but that doesn’t mean the music stops there. They believe the brilliance of classical music should be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or curious to try, you live in a bustling city or a village far from the madding crowd.

This Autumn, RNS are bringing a woodwind quintet to Highlights venues with a programme to include:

Barber Summer Music (11’) : Samuel Barber’s Summer Music is one of those pieces that does what it says on the tin - conjuring up warm, hazy days with chirruping birdsong and moods gently switching direction like summer breezes.

Janeck Mladi (17’) : Mladi means ‘youth’ and captures 70-year-old Leoš Janáček’s reflecting on his childhood, weaving in Czech folk traditions and the sounds that stayed with him over a lifetime.

Nielsen Wind Quintet (23’) : Carl Nielsen was brilliant at writing for wind instruments and his Wind Quintet really lets each one shine, showing off its own distinctive voice.
