Learn to Draw Portraits with Artist Rachel Hope
Ellingham Village Hall
trueNorthumberland
This is a beginner friendly workshop on how to create a basic portrait. You will become familiar with using charcoal, gain confidence in your technique, and find joy in observing and sketching an array of different faces. Together we will study basic head structure, face proportion, the use of guidelines and how to draw facial features.

We will take what we’ve learned and put it into practice. We’ll have fun sketching each other using the techniques we’ve learned. We’ll end with a final portrait of your choice: Sketch someone from the group, or use a photo of a loved one, or perhaps produce a self portrait?

By the end you will have overcome some of the obstacles inherent in learning to draw and be eager to practice drawing portraits of your family and friends!

DATE CHANGE: the workshop at Ellingham is now on Tue 23 September (not Tue 28 October, as originally published).
