Filkin’s Drift + Lucy Grubb
Newbrough Town Hall
trueNorthumberland
A double bill evening with two fabulous artists: Filkin's Drift and Lucy Grubb.

The music of Filkin’s Drift captures the essence of their recent 870-mile walk along the Welsh coast, from North to West, during which they performed multiple shows, ‘weaving together a tapestry of shared experiences’ - Songlines. Their compositions range from delicate Welsh folk songs to traditional English dance tunes, and are rooted in tradition, blending fiddle and guitar with ‘gorgeous close vocal harmonies’ - KLOF Mag.

Norfolk-based singer-songwriter Lucy Grubb has been making waves in the British Americana scene since her 2017 debut, named Best UK EP of the Year by Belles & Gals. She has won fans at Glastonbury, Latitude, Cambridge Folk Festival, Black Deer Festival, Country 2 Country and more. Inspired by the likes of Johnny Cash, Lucy's understated guitar rhythms and Country trilled vocal melodies hark back to tried and tested traditional Country song writing, expressing grief, sorrow and heartbreak.

This is the start of a new and exciting collaboration between Highlights and Sound Roots, an organisation which supports UK artists to build music careers in folk and beyond. Sound Roots initiatives have nurtured many of today’s leading folk artists including Katherine Priddy, Dominie Hooper, George Boomsma, Maddie Morris, Lady Nade and more.
