Blue Jam Arts

BlueJam Arts at Penrith, is a dynamic hub for innovative community music and arts in North Cumbria and beyond. They have an excellent range of online workshops and ensembles you can join, including Penrith Children’s Orchestra.

To support music-making at home and within schools, at this time DMS and DMT have been uploading exciting new music videos every day from sing-alongs to learning how to play the ukulele, there is a whole host of activities for your pupils to enjoy. Find information for all ages here.

Sage Gateshead

Every year at Sage Gateshead, musicians participate in the Big Sing by writing songs for children and young people to learn. The theme of this year’s Big Sing is climate change. While this year’s concerts can’t take place, teachers can still get their pupils to create a mini-concert at home using the digital songbook and online tutorials.

NYMAZ is a youth music development charity who champion the transformative potential of music for children and young people. They have a range of online music resources for teachers to utilise. Full list of online resources.

Yorkshire Youth and Music

Yorkshire Youth and Music create music-making opportunities that change children and young people’s lives by working in partnership with schools, music services, community groups, and other organisations and institutions who provide support and services to people in challenging circumstances. Here is their online musical video series called Let’s Play that will be great for children who are struggling with their mental health.

There is also a series of videos for deaf pupils to enjoy called deaf and musical: Deaf & musical video series.

Yorkshire Women’s Sound Network

My Minute of Listening

Highlights have been working with composer Liz Dobson, as part of her #CovidScoreChallenge, which is a deep listening project, responding to sound through creating musical scores and art work. You can access the resources through the Sound and Music, the national organisation for new music in the UK.
